Thomas
Newte, Prospects and Observations on a Tour of England and Scotland, 1785,
"It
is impossible to pass over the venerable beauties of Innerpeffray, fronting
Castle Drummond, in a concavity of the serpentizing Ern, its castle,
the antient seat of the Lords of Maderty, its chapel, public library
and school, both established for the good of the community and carrying
back the mind to the antient situation and the genius of Scotland"
William
M Dickie, M.A., Ph.D., INNERPEFFRAY LIBRARY, published by The Library
Association Record, 1928,
"Here
then, in a desolate part of Perthshire, situated upon a wooded eminence
close to the River Earn, in a churchyard and near a half-ruined chapel,
where lie buried the founder and his two wives, is to be found a library
of quite unusual interest, the oldest free public library in Scotland."

"Amazing collection"
Peter, Surrey
"Fantastic! Thank you!"
Vanessa, Canada
"I'll be back!"
Val Drummond, Canada

Extracts
from a report by NATIONAL LIBRARY OF SCOTLAND, December 1995
"The
Library at Innerpeffray is a unique collection, ... on account of the
unusual circumstances of its foundation in the late 17th Century in
a rather remote rural location, its long association with a prominent
and ancient Perthshire family, and its remarkable survival into modern
times. As the oldest free public library in Scotland it has no exact
parallel anywhere else in Scotland, a distinction reinforced by its
attractive setting in a unique complex of Library, Chapel, Castle and
Schoolhouse."
"Very interesting German book (Colerus, 1613)
Marion, Aberdeen
"Peaceful and lovely"
Ann, Crieff
"Our school outing appreciated the rarity of what they were privileged to see"
Alison, Perth
